Peter Bower
Retiring from the Police in November 2007, Peter was a Tactical Firearms Officer with more than fifteen years experience, and a Firearms Instructor and Tactical Advisor for the last ten years. With a strong operational background the planning and delivery of firearms operations, Peter was also responsible for training all firearms specialisms, including command and communications and use of force.
A trained armourer/maintainer on several weapons systems, Peter was the lead firearms expert witness in force since 1999. Peter has completed all the major national courses for UK firearms courses. Peter has been lecturing at De Montfort University on Forensic Firearms issues since 2003.
Peter specialises on the classification of firearms and related articles and has experience and case work history in the following areas.
- Evaluation of circumstances in overall context and comment on the validity of expert evidence.
- Shooting scene analysis and interpretation by examination or from photograph.
- Weapon recovery and make safe at scene.
- Incident investigation to determine weapon or ammunition malfunction, or other cause.
- Weapon examination to determine function or fault.
- The presentation of evidence in Courts of law.
Recently retired, Peter has a detailed and thorough understanding of all areas of Police firearms issues in addition to the general issues of lawful or criminal firearms use.
