Dr Roger Berrett BSc, PhD
Roger Berrett has been practising forensic science since 1967, specialising in forensic chemistry and, latterly, fire investigation. Roger joined Forensic Access as a consultant fire and gas explosion investigator in 1994. During this time, he has dealt with many high-profile cases in the UK and abroad including Germany, Hong Kong and Pakistan .
He served previously as a principal scientist in the Metropolitan Police Forensic Science Laboratory (MPFSL). Between 1973 and 1978, he was head of the laboratory's drugs and toxicology section and then spent the next 10 years as staff officer to the director.
In 1988, Roger joined the MPFSL Fire Investigation Unit where he developed expertise in various disciplines including:
- investigating scenes of fire and disperse-phase (gas and petrol vapour) explosions, associated appliances, electrical wiring and equipment
- interpreting burning and other patterns and advising investigators accordingly
- conducting detailed scientific examination of items and samples in the laboratory
- assessing the significance of findings in the context of the case
- presenting evidence in written and oral form to courts of law.
