Forensic Photography Training – Law Enforcement

High-quality forensic photography plays a vital role in capturing evidence, supporting investigations and presenting clear, accurate visual records throughout the criminal justice process. From documenting crime scenes and recording injuries to capturing vehicles, exhibits and marks, evidential photography provides investigators, forensic experts and the courts with a permanent record that can withstand scrutiny.
Developed and delivered by experienced Crime Scene Investigator Lisa Warwick, our bespoke photography training equips delegates with the technical knowledge, practical skills and operational confidence to produce evidential-quality images in a range of policing environments. Combining classroom-based learning with extensive practical exercises, realistic scenarios and competency-based assessment, the course is designed to help delegates apply photographic techniques consistently and effectively in real investigations.
Each programme is tailored to your organisation’s operational procedures, equipment, delegate experience and selected training modules, ensuring the course is directly relevant to the environments in which your teams work.

Course Modules
The course is structured to build confidence progressively, beginning with core photographic principles before moving into operational application and specialist evidential photography. Modules can be selected and adapted depending on delegate experience, organisational procedures, available training time and the photographic requirements of your force.
Photography Workbook
Delegates complete pre-course learning to develop their understanding of core photographic terminology, equipment, camera operation and the principles that underpin evidential photography.
General Photography
This module develops delegates’ confidence using DSLR or mirrorless cameras, including camera settings, exposure, focus, metering, white balance, tripods, flash and lighting techniques.
Crime Scene Photography
Delegates learn how to photograph internal and external scenes systematically, capturing general, mid-range and close-up images to create a clear and accurate visual record.
Marks, Vehicles and Exhibits
This module covers the photographic recording of vehicles, exhibits and evidential marks, including fingerprints, footwear marks and tyre marks.
Technical Photography
Delegates develop specialist techniques for injury photography, low-light and night photography, custody photography, and post-mortem or mortuary photography where required.
Assessment
Where required, the course can include written and practical assessments, allowing delegates to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and ability to produce evidential-quality images in realistic scenarios.

Do delegates need previous photography experience?
No. The course can be tailored for delegates with little or no previous experience, as well as experienced practitioners looking to refresh or develop specialist skills.
Can the course be tailored to our force?
Yes. Every programme can be bespoke and adapted to your force’s procedures, equipment, experience levels and operational requirements.
Is the training practical?
Yes. Practical learning forms a significant part of the course, allowing delegates to apply photographic techniques through realistic operational scenarios and competency-based exercises.
Can we use our own camera equipment?
Yes. Wherever possible, delegates are encouraged to train using the camera equipment they use operationally. Training can also be aligned with your force’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring photographic techniques are applied in accordance with your existing processes and guidelines.
Where is the course delivered?
Training can be delivered at your premises or another suitable venue, depending on your requirements and the practical elements of the programme.
How long is the course?

Is this course CPD accredited?
Yes. The full course is accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), allowing delegates to record recognised CPD hours while developing the practical skills and knowledge required for evidential photography.
