FPTS was established by the long-standing and respected forensic science provider, Forensic Access Ltd, in September 2016. Our initial aim was to produce realistic and challenging quality accredited proficiency tests, for forensic scientists, designed and produced by forensic scientists. We have been doing this, successfully, ever since.

Our ISO 17043 accreditation, dated 16 November 2017, initially covers our Biological Materials Schemes, but we also have applications in with UKAS for our Fingerprint and Digital Forensics schemes. You can read our Scope of accreditation here: FPTS ISO 17043 Accreditation.

Our Chief Executive, Prof Angela Gallop, CBE commented “We are delighted that UKAS, after vigorous scrutiny of not only our technical quality, but our management and operational systems, have recognised the dedication of time and the skills that our FPTS team have shown in developing and supplying forensic proficiency tests. We can now offer quality accredited support to forensic science practitioners around the World, and contribute to them achieving and maintaining their own quality accreditation“.

Over the past 14 months FPTS has provided proficiency tests for: identification of body fluids on swatches and exhibits, comparison of latent fingerprints, footwear coding, mobile phone data extraction and computer hard drive imaging and analysis. More schemes are currently being developed. We already have customers around the UK, Europe, North America and Asia, with customers including police forces, commercial organisations (including forensic practitioners and multi-national corporations), Universities and Colleges and other governmental departments and agencies.
