Carl Lloyd has over thirty years experience in the field of fingerprints, scenes of crime examination and fingerprint chemical treatments.

Carl began his career in this field in the mid 1970's when a member of the police force he moved into a scene of crime department. From there in the beginning of the 1980's he moved into "pure" fingerprints where he successfully passed the necessary examinations to advanced standard, so being allowed to be considered as a fingerprint expert.

He was made head of the fingerprint department of the constabulary, a post he held for some ten years until the position was civilianised. Whilst in this post he travelled to the USA on a number of occasions, working on the computerisation of the FBI fingerprint collection, and worked for other police forces within the UK, on secondment, to assist with fingerprint matters.

After that Carl moved on secondment to the Forensic Science Service, where he remained until he retired from the police, then taking on the same post until resignation in August 2007. During this time, much of his work was within the fingerprint chemical treatment field, whilst maintaining his expertise with reviewing cases for defence agencies including the Criminal Cases Review Commission as well as dealing with prosecution cases. Whilst working for the Forensic Science Service he took up a post of teaching fingerprints to the Abu Dhabi police. It was at the end of this teaching contract Carl resigned from the Forensic Science Service.

Since this time Carl has worked independently reviewing cases from both the UK and abroad attending Court on numerous occasions.
